Jacksonville, Fl. — Jacksonville Beach Police say a body washed ashore Monday morning about 18 blocks north of where a teenager was reported missing on Sunday. Police have confirmed the remains recovered this morning are those of a missing 14-year-old boy from Sunday.
Sgt. Tom Crumley with Jax Beach PD says the remains were found by a passerby around 6:30am.
The 14-year-old boy went missing in the water near First Avenue South on Sunday. Jacksonville Beach Lifeguards told our partners at Action News Jax they got the call at 1:50 p.m. Crews tried to get to the boy but were unable to locate him. The search was called off at 3:40 p.m.
Saturday morning, St. Johns County Fire and Rescue and the Sheriff’s Office responded to a three people in distress in the water near Atlantic View. The two children were able to make to shore, but the 47-year-old man had gone missing underneath the water.
Dangerous swimming conditions kept lifeguards busy over the weekend across the First Coast. Jacksonville Beach Ocean Rescue says they had to perform 15 rescues just Sunday alone.
Water, air and land resources were able to find the man a short time later while searching for another missing swimmer 47-year-old Dale Kopf last week. The man was taken to Flagler Hospital where his condition remains unknown.
On Sunday, while crews continued to search for Kopf, a human body part washed ashore on South Ponte Vedra Beach.
Deputies say while it is possible it could belong to Kopf, it is not confirmed at this time. It’s currently being investigated and deputies tell us they have no additional reports of missing persons in the water or general area.
