Nassau Humane Society calling on volunteers to help homeless dogs for a day

The Nassau County Humane Society has launched a new program to help both animals in their shelter as well as volunteers who may not be ready to foster or adopt a new pet.

The Rent-A-Rover program lets people take one of the "homeless dogs on a furry field trip out of the shelter."

The humane society posted to it's Facebook page Tuesday that the program provides a treat bag, a leash that says "ADOPT ME", a portable water bowl and bottled water for the day for small donation.

The program is available everyday that the shelter is open and the shelter encourages participants to take pictures of the furry field trip.

Jacksonville, FL — It’s called Rent-a-Rover…and the Nassau County Humane Society is calling on volunteers to rent out one of its homeless dogs for a day.

The Rent-a-Rover program is new for the Humane Society, it offers an opportunity to those who are looking to help but they are unable to foster or adopt. The Humane Society says it’s even a great opportunity for someone on vacation in the area and they are missing their own dog back home.
