You’ll probably hear some extra commotion if you’re on or near any of the area Navy bases over the next couple weeks.
Both Naval Air Station Jacksonville and Naval Station Mayport will be participating in Citadel Shield/Solid Curtain 2020 exercises from Monday through Feb. 14. It’s an annual exercise focusing on anti-terrorism procedures and force protection exercises.
The Navy says the exercises aren’t due to any specific threat, and they’re more of a precaution to make sure personnel are ready for anything that could happen.
The public won’t be in danger at all during the exercises and the bases won’t be holding events every day, but there could be times when you’ll hit extra traffic getting on or off the installations. The Navy says the exercise coordinators have taken every precaution to make the disruptions as minor as possible.
They’ll be working with state, county and city official to address any concerns when that’s necessary.
