Off-duty cop shoots suspect in Jimmy John's robbery

An off-duty Jacksonville Sheriff's Officer shoots a robber near Beach and University.

We're told veteran officer Michael Price saw the suspect get a ski mask out of a car Sunday night, and a few minutes later the Jimmy John's was robbed.

Police then tried to stop the car that was involved.  We're told the suspect ignored commands to stop.  The officer opened fire as the suspect was running to get in a getaway car.

JSO says the suspect wouldn't obey commands and at one point had his hand at his waist.

Officer David Couch, a nine-year veteran, also shot at the suspect.

Chief Tom Hackney says this robbery may be connected to a string of recent restaurant robberies on the southside dating back to December 7th.

JSO said Price fired four times and Couch fired about seven times.  The suspect was hit twice, and is hospitalized in critical condition.

Two people who were in the suspect's vehicle were brought in for questioning by JSO.

We're told the suspect is listed in critical condition at the hospital.
