One more rainy afternoon before Summer heat ramps up

After some rain over the weekend, we’ll have more scattered showers and storms to start the work week before we dry out and heat up.

JACKSONVILLE, FL. — The weekend featured some showers and storms, with heavy downpours at times, and Monday will be no different.

In fact on Sunday, Jacksonville set a daily rainfall record of 2.24 inches of rain, beating 2.20 inches back in 1970. We’re about 3 inches above average for the month so far.

Action News Jax Meteorologist Alyssa Pejic says Monday will start out mild and muggy before scattered showers and storms begin to develop after 2 p.m. and move west to east, pushing all the way to the beaches. Locally heavy rainfall and lightning are the primary threats.

The bulk of the heaviest of the rain should be offshore by the evening commute, but there could be some lingering showers. It’ll be hot and humid with high temperatures into the low 90s and feels-like temperatures around 100 to 103 degrees with the humidity.

We build into the low to mid 90s by later in the week with still some isolated afternoon showers, but there will be plenty of dry hours.

There are no areas of concern in the tropics so far.
