JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office arrested 59 registered sexual offenders and predators this summer for violating the terms of their release, the agency announced Tuesday.
The arrests came out of Operation Riverwatch, a joint effort between JSO’s Offender Tracking Unit and the U.S. Marshals Service conducted from June 15 to Aug. 14.
During the operation, JSO said detectives logged more than 230 man-hours and carried out 535 checks on registered offenders and predators across Jacksonville.

The checks led to 59 arrests of people who violated conditions required of them following release from prison or jail.

Under Florida law, registered offenders must comply with strict requirements intended to protect the public. Depending on the violation, noncompliance can result in felony charges and additional registration requirements, JSO said.
The sheriff’s office is asking anyone who suspects an offender or predator is violating their requirements to call 904-630-0500.
