A Northwest Jacksonville company is facing big penalties from OSHA.
Regulators have cited Atlantic Coast Asphalt with 10 “serious” health and safety violations, which could bring a $63,360 fine.
The penalties come following a September incident when a worker trying to cut a section of piping out of a large tank became trapped in hot liquid asphalt. Rescue crews worked for 8 hours to free the man, who suffered severe burns on his legs and feet.
OSHA says Atlantic Coast Asphalt “exposed workers to entrapment, thermal and chemical burn hazards” by not identifying all hazards or putting all proper controls in place.
The company has 15 business days to comply, request a conference with OSHA, or contest the findings.
