JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office says a pedestrian was hit and killed by a train in Jacksonville’s Allendale neighborhood.
The incident happened around 2885 St. Clair Street around 11 a.m.
The victim, a man in his 60s, initially was trespassing the Norfolk Southern train yard. The security of the train yard made him leave. Ten minutes later, the man started to crawl under a parked train, however the train started to move. The victim’s legs were amputated by the train and he was transported to a nearby hospital. He later died from his injuries.
Police say that the crossing gates were active when the incident occurred.
The train was operated by Norfolk Southern. WOKV has reached out to the company for a statement.
