Red light runner causes fatal accident

We’ve learned the fatal traffic accident that tied up your Roosevelt commute yesterday happened because of a red light runner.

Jacksonville Police say 45-year-old Michael Eugene Goodbread, Jr. was facing east on Verona Ave, waiting to make a left turn onto Roosevelt Blvd with a green light. Police say another driver heading south on Roosevelt at a high rate of speed failed to stop at the red light at the intersection, hitting the driver’s side door of Goodbread’s car.

Goodbread died on the scene. The other driver, who has not yet been identified, sustained non-life threatening injuries.

Police say this is still an active investigation. No word at this time if any charges will be filed.
