JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A student is recovering about being shot in the arm while at Ribault High School on Friday afternoon, according to a Duval County Public Schools spokesperson.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office says another student has been arrested and charged with possession of a gun on a school campus, which is a felony. JSO have not identified this individual, but says they were taken into custody without incident. The gun used has also been recovered by police.
In a message to parents from the principal, because of the incident, there will now be mandatory screening of all students using metal detectors starting on Monday.
“I’m disappointed to end a great week on this note, but I wanted to make sure you are informed. Please remind your students that firearms or weapons of any type are not permitted at school," said Principal Gregory Bostic.
The shooting is being investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and the Duval County School Police. At this time, it’s not clear what led up to the incident.
