Suspect charged in murder of 16-year-old Angel Alonzo

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office announced Tuesday the arrest of Samuel Vick Jr. in the murder investigation of 16-year-old Angel Alonzo, who was shot and killed on April 5th at the Whispering Oaks Apartments on Atlanta Boulevard.

According to police, officers responded to reports of someone getting shot at 1:30 p.m. and found Alonzo with a single gunshot wound to the chest. He was taken to UF Health and died from the injuries.

Vick, a fellow resident of the Whispering Oaks Apartments, showed up to another apartment armed with a handgun and demanded money. The tenant of the apartment went to another apartment within the complex where some of his friends – including Alonzo – were located. The group went back to the original apartment, trying to disarm and get Vick to leave the unit.

Angel closed the door of the apartment and Vick began firing gunshots through the door. Vick fled the scene and was arrested on a warrant for possessing a firearm as a convicted felon on April 21st.

He confessed to shooting through the door and was charged with murder Tuesday.

Police believe the incident is drug related.
