Jacksonville, Fl — The first hospital in NE Florida to distribute the COVID 19 vaccine has distributed 95% of the shots to date, but it’s not clear when the next round will arrive.
“So we’re all waiting to wait our turn I guess for the next set so that we can get out to the community more”, said UF Health Jacksonville CEO Leon Haley.
During a visit on Jacksonville’s Morning News, Haley said the demand for vaccinations is an encouraging sign in what has been a dark period of time.

Haley continues to ask for people to wear a mask, keep distance and wash their hands frequently. Over the past ten days the number of hospitalizations has begun to decrease.
“The total hospitalizations in the city yesterday were 432 so we’re seeing the trend lines head down and we’re also starting to see the positivity rates in the region start to go back down”, Haley said.
To date, about 7,000 staff at UF Health Jacksonville has received a first dose. And overall, around 11,000 first doses have been distributed to health care organizations in the city. Second round doses are being scheduled out now.
Haley said they will likely exhaust the first round in the next couple of days.
