UNF stepping up police presence on campus in response to planned white nationalist rally on campus

Jacksonville, FL — It continues to be a tense time at the University of North Florida.

Days after a student, who self identifies as white supremacist, was suspended for posting a threatening message on social media, we're learning white nationalists plan to rally at the campus this coming Monday.

According to UNF president John Delaney, the rally is apparently planned to take place outside the student's Panel Appeal Conduct Hearing, which is scheduled for Monday, November 20, at 9:00 am, as he's trying to appeal his immediate suspension.

Delaney is calling on students not to counter-protest, citing concerns about friction between the opposing parties. He says IF there's a counter-protest, he asks everyone to protest peaceably.

In response to rumors about this rally, Delaney says the university has moved the hearing to the Alumni Hall, which is away from the academic core of campus. He says, at this time, they have no plans to cancel class, as they feel the campus is safe.

We're told the University Police Department is also working with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office to have additional officers on campus, both in uniform and undercover.
