WOKV Show Notes January 26, 2026: JAX Airport managing through ripple effect of winter storm

Dozens of flight cancellations and multiple delays are expected as major hubs dig out from snow, ice storm.

Jacksonville, Fl — The weekend’s snow and ice storm set the stage for a brutal start to travel this week.

Airlines on Sunday warned of widespread cancellations and delays at some of the nation’s busiest airports. More than 11,400 flights canceled Sunday, according to FlightAware.

As of 9:00 am Monday, JAX Airport had 38 cancellations posted.

It’s unclear how long it may take to unwind the delays and cancellations.

Jacksonville saw morning rain on the back end of the front that swept across the country. Temperatures will plunge from Sunday’s near-record warmth to the 20s overnight.

First Alert Meteorologist Corey Simma recommends covering sensitive plants even at the beaches.

Highs will only be in the 40s on Tuesday with sunny skies.

Inland freezes continue each day this week and into the weekend.

Controversy continues to swell around ICE in Minneapolis., after another fatal ICE shooting last weekend of Minnesota nurse Alex Pretti. Eyewitness video shared publicly contradicts “official” statements from ICE, DHS and White House administration regarding the shooting. ICE attempted to block local law enforcement investigations. A federal judge has ordered ICE to maintain evidence without disposal or modification. ICE is conducting its own investigation into itself.

Law enforcement analyst and retired LEO Steve Hauk joins JMN to examine details from the fatal shooting of Alex Pretti in Minnesota. The White House, DHS, and ICE have issued statements framing it a defensive shooting. Hauk observes that multiple videos provide different angles of the incident, consistently refuting the government’s narrative.

Senate votes on funding bills are in jeopardy, as the deadline to the next government shutdown approaches. The winter storm impact on travel in and out of the metro DC area has forced a budget vote reschedule to tomorrow, raising the question of how many senators will be back in time for the vote. Senate Democrats are threatening a hard line against funding DHS after last weekend’s latest ICE related fatal shooting. Fox’s Ryan Schmelz updates from Capitol Hill.
