Write-in candidate drops out of Clay sheriff race, Cook ready to take on position

Former Atlantic Beach Police Chief Michelle Cook will take over as Clay County sheriff when she’s sworn in in January. It’s an update today after the person she was supposed to face in the November election dropped out.

Cook defeated several candidates in Tuesday’s primary election, including suspended Sheriff Darryl Daniels. That set up a showdown with write-in candidate Francis Bourrie, but Clay County Supervisor of Election Chris Chambless says Bourrie is no longer in the race.

Chambless says Cook will be sworn in Jan. 5.
