13-year-old arrested for threatening school shooting in St. Johns County

A 13-year-old Switzerland Point Middle School student has been arrested for threatening to conduct a mass shooting.

The arrest report says the student was in a group text when he made the threat. Investigators say he also texted that he wasn’t kidding, quoted a song about someone who commits a school shooting, and sent a photo of a revolver while implying it would be used in the shooting.

The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office was alerted to the threat Tuesday night, and the student was taken in to custody on the felony charge.

Switzerland Point Middle School’s Principal Kirstie Gabaldon sent a message to parents notifying them about the threat, but adding they determined the threat was not credible. She is further asking parents to ensure your children realize how serious something like this is and understand the responsibilities of using social media.

The arrest report says the 13-year-old admitted to writing the threatening messages.
