JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — It is election day in Florida, and voters all across our area will be headed to the polls to cast their votes in various primary elections.
“It’s all important, and you’ve got to get out and vote,” says Judy O’Shea, a Southside voter.
On this summer’s scorcher of an election day, O’Shea says it’s important to take part in the democratic process during the primaries as well, not just in the November general.
“Anytime there’s an election, you need to be here and cast your vote,” said O’Shea.
Duval County’s Supervisor of Elections Jerry Holland says his office anticipates about 24% voter turnout on Election Day.
Some voters had problems Tuesday.
“Two polling locations where they had delays opening up. Precincts were open, but the equipment was slow to power up,” explained Holland via phone.
The supervisor tells Action News Jax it was otherwise smooth sailing at Duval’s 157 other polling locations. Just ask voter Larry Schuman at the Pablo Creek regional branch library off Beach Blvd.
“Oh yeah, very quick. There weren’t very many people in there; like I said, it was in and out very fast,” said Schuman.
Holland tells me there’s a pattern when it comes to the party of voters who show up early versus on election day.
“On election day, the trend in Duval County has been more Republicans voted than Democrats on election day, but what we’re seeing is that margin between the two is narrowing,” said Holland.
Holland says that the difference between republicans and democrats is at about 9000 voters.
If you’re wondering where you should go to vote?
Your voter information card shows the precinct, polling place, and voting districts for your address. You must vote in the precinct in which you live, so ensure that you provide your current address.
If you moved and/or cannot find your voter information card, you can search for your polling location on our website.
Florida law requires you to have a photo and a signature ID. That includes:
