Man beaten and robbed leaving Westside CVS

One man is in custody and another on the run after an early morning robbery on the Westside.

JSO says a man was walking out of the CVS on San Juan Ave. off Roosevelt Blvd. when two guys walked up to him and pretended to ask him for directions.

"They proceeded to beat him down into the ground, they went into his pockets, took out his wallet, and fled on foot," says Det. C.G. Nieto with JSO's robbery unit.

Detective Nieto says they got video of the robbers inside the store and after it was broadcast, the suspects were seen running on Lake Shore Blvd. near Lenox, about 3 miles away.

Police got one of the suspects but the other was able to get away. He’s described as a black man in his 20s with dreadlocks and wearing all black clothes. Police would not say whether this robbery is connected to a string of Westside robberies over the weekend and directed all further questions to their public information officer. WOKV reached out to JSO who was unable to provide any further information as of 9 a.m.

The man who was arrested has admitted his involvement in the robbery and is being charged.

This is the same CVS where an employee was shot during a robbery in early July. The suspect in that robbery was also charged with murder in the shooting of a contractor working overnight at Mojo's BBQ in Avondale.
