St. Augustine man accused of sexual assault during Hurricane Irma

Jacksonville, FL — A St. Augustine man has been arrested for sexually assaulting a girl under the age of 12 the night Hurricane Irma passed through NE Florida.

29-year-old Reginald Williams was booked into jail yesterday on a charge of sexual battery.  According to police, the incident happened as the girl and her siblings were sleeping.

The girl told police that Williams appeared drunk and offered her money in exchange for sex.  She refused, but he later returned and assaulted the girl, according to the arrest report.

The victim reported the incident to her parents nine days later, saying she was embarrassed and had wanted to keep it to herself.  But she later decided she needed to tell them.

Williams is being held in the St. Johns County jail on $500,000 bond.
