Baptist Medical Center Nassau opening up new 30,000 square foot surgery center

Jacksonville, FL — It's exciting news for Nassau County residents.

Baptist Medical Center Nassau is opening up a new, 30,000 square foot surgery center on Thursday, December 14th, at 5:00 pm, though the official operational opening won’t be until January 2nd.

Ed Hubel, the Baptist Medical Center Nassau hospital president, says the center will allow Nassau residents to have access to the most advanced surgical and procedural care, without having to travel to Jacksonville.

"The community is growing and Baptist Nassau needed to grow with its community and provide a facility that would enhance the patient experience, continue to elevate our safe and quality care that we deliver, but also provide it to our patients and families with such an experience, that, from a care perspective, we could alleviate their anxiety, bring to the forefront the technology advancement that this community needed," explains Hubel.

Hubel says the top-of-the-line facility could draw patients from neighboring counties and even from Georgia.

We're told the center will have 20 large private patient rooms, allowing families to come visit pre and post-surgery, and what's called 'smart' operating rooms.

Hubel says there will also be varying zones, designed to fit your needs.

"If you have high-anxiety and you want a quiet area, we have that, in our spacious waiting rooms. We also have, what we call, an entertainment section, where those that want to watch TV or talk freely or talk on their phones can be. Those that just want to reflect and get away, we have a healing garden that is easily accessible to the outdoors," explains Hubel.

The facility, which is an extension of the existing building, was built in less than a year, with a total investment of $22.5 million.
