A scheme by inmates to sue the Columbia County prison is foiled by investigators with the FDLE.
Seven people, including a Jacksonville woman and three inmates are now charged in connection with the shooting.
The FDLE says their investigation reveals two inmates conspired to shoot themselves so they could sue the prison and receive a lighter sentencing. Investigators say Kirk Cartwright and Deshandre Billups lied about being shot by someone inside of the Columbia county prison. Instead, they worked with others on the outside to smuggle the gun into the prision.
