Construction begins on I95/JTB improvements

Nearly two years after the funding for a big overhaul at JTB and I-95 was lined up, construction is now underway.
The Florida Department of Transportation has begun to lay the foundation for a $67 million project improving traffic flow at the busy interchange. Early steps include cutting back the tree lines, putting up noise walls, and doing drainage work.
“We’re going to start some of the full-fledged construction the early part of January,” says FDOT Spokesman Ron Tittle.
The project includes a new flyover ramp from I-95 south to JTB east, which would eliminate the traffic signal currently in that area. Butler between Philips and I95 will also be widened and an overpass will be added on JTB at Belfort in order to bypass the merging traffic. Finally, westbound JTB access will be opened up from I95 northbound.
Tittle says the project should be completed Summer 2017. During these early phases, he expects any lane closures will be overnight.
“It’s going to be a minimal impact to the traffic in that respect,” Tittle says.
He says as the project moves forward, drivers need to pay close attention to signs indicating any change in traffic patterns or speed limits. You can get a full breakdown of the plan and speak with designers and engineers at an open house January 21st between 5 and 7 PM at the Best Western near JTB and I95.
