Jacksonville, FL — Jacksonville police are asking for your help figuring out what happened to an 86-year-old man who was found with his throat cut near the Duval-Baker County border.

JSO responded to Maxville-Macclenny Road Saturday, around 3:10PM, because of a person found with life threatening injuries. The elderly man’s throat had been cut, and he was found lying in the roadway. It appeared the victim had pulled himself out of a ditch of water and on to the dirt road, because his clothes were completely soaked.

The victim’s injuries are considered life threatening. He was unable to communicate because of the extent of his injury.

JSO says the victim was reported missing by his wife in Neptune Beach 6:05PM Saturday, without knowing he had been found and taken to the hospital. Prior to that, the victim was last seen at 11:59AM, and he had told his wife he was going to Academy Sports on Atlantic Blvd and then Navy Exchange on Mayport Road.

The victim’s vehicle was not with him when police got on the scene. JSO logged it as stolen, and Miami-Dade Police called Sunday night to say the victim’s car had been found in their jurisdiction. The vehicle is described as a 2005 Honda CRV with a “Salt Life” sticker on the back windshield with a spare tire attached to the rear outside trunk of the vehicle. It has a Florida tag J2BRR.

JSO is trying to determine what happened to the victim and assemble a timeline for where he was and who he had contact with between 11:59AM and when he was found. If you have any information about the victim’s throat being cut or his vehicle which was stolen, you’re asked to contact JSO at 904-630-0500 ore JSOCrimeTips@jaxsheriff.org. You can also submit an anonymous tip and be eligible for a possible $3,000 reward by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
