Jacksonville, FL — This week, four rehabilitated manatees were returned to their natural waterways. Cassie, Buckeye, Bambam and Gale were all rescued as injured calves between August 2015, and December 2016. All four had received extended rehabilitation and care.
Participants in the rescue, rehabilitation and return include Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens, SeaWorld Orlando, The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation, South Florida Museum, Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden, and the Sea to Shore Alliance.
In addition to returning the four rehabilitated manatees, SeaWorld Orlando transferred another young rescued manatee to the Jacksonville Zoo.

Multiple rehabilitated manatees were returned to their natural habitat by the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens and other agencies this week. Two of the four manatees that were rehabilitated at the Jacksonville Zoo were Cassie (seen here) and Buckeye.
Buckeye, seen here was rescued as an orphaned calf in 2015 near Daytona Beach. He was estimated to be a few weeks old and weight 64.5 pounds. At the time of his release he weighed 688 pounds.
Cassie was also rescued in 2015 weighing 66 pounds. She was returned to the wild this week weighing 890 pounds.
This is Cassiee being released back into her natural habitat this week.
