JSO officer’s dog missing after truck and guns stolen from his Murray Hill home

You just can't put a price on some things.

A Jacksonville police officer can tell you all about that after discovering his dog - a tan pit bull called Hemingway - from his Murray Hill home following a home break-in.

The officer's Toyota Tacoma and two handguns were also snatched during that break-in, which happened around three o'clock Tuesday morning.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office says the officer found a shell casing, blood smears on the back door and a large pool of blood on the floor when he came back home from work.

JSO didn't say exactly where the break-in took place, but in a Facebook post made afterward, a man identifying himself as Hemingway's owner wrote that the dog was last seen running along Kingsbury Street and may have been shot during the break-in.

A man is now in custody after other JSO officers found the stolen truck leaving a Northside apartment complex on North Lincoln Court and North Davis Street around 11 o'clock last night.

Police say the man driving the stolen truck smashed into at least two police cars and a telephone pole while trying to get away, causing the power pole to fall onto North Davis Street and block the road temporarily on the 2500 block.

Detectives are currently searching for another man who was in the truck at the time and managed to get away on foot from pursuing officers.

JSO says the dog and one of the guns has yet to be recovered, but the truck is in their possession along with a gun found inside.

No injuries were reported in the Northside incident, per JSO.

According to the incident report, both guns - a .40 caliber Glock semi-automatic and a .38 caliber Smith & Wesson revolver - belong to the officer, not JSO. It also noted that two other things were stolen: a $100 gold necklace and a set of keys to a JSO patrol car.

Anyone with information on the suspect or the dog can call JSO at 904-630-0500 or email JSOCrimeTips@jaxsheriff.org.

Those who want to stay anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 866-845-TIPS (8477).
