Man arrested for shooting at seagulls with airsoft gun on Jax Beach

A Mississippi man was arrested in Jacksonville Beach Sunday after police said he was shooting seagulls with an airsoft gun.

Ryan Ivey, 26, was charged with animal cruelty.

The Jacksonville Beach Police Department said they received several calls from concerned citizens who told them Ivey was shooting at seagulls with what appeared to be BB’s.

Police caught up with Ivey near the lifeguard building where he was holding what appeared to be a black semi-automatic handgun, according to the report.

Investigators said it was actually an airsoft gun that Ivey caught the tip off of, making it look like a real firearm.

The report said Ivey told them that he did not hit any of the seagulls.

When asked if it was legal to shoot at seagulls in Mississippi, Ivey said it was.
