Jacksonville, FL — A $100 bill--- it's at the center of a criminal case involving a Jacksonville Sheriff's Office detective.

JSO Undersheriff Pat Ivey announcing the arrest of Detective Jason Mann, an 11-year veteran of the force, for two different crimes: one count of tampering with evidence, which is a 3rd degree felony, and one count of petit theft.

Ivey says the charges stem from yesterday afternoon, when Mann was involved in a search related to a narcotics warrant, off of Dignan Street in Lackawanna.

During the search, Mann is accused of taking a $100 bill from the scene.

"It was discovered because other detectives had realized that there was one $100 bill, denomination in the cash. The sergeant who was present also recognized that it was unaccounted for. He did a real good job, the sergeant did, at the scene. He had all the detectives come into one location, a room, and actually had them empty their pockets, immediately," says Ivey.

Ivey says two of the detectives on scene were in possession of a $100 bill, but they were able to determine which was the missing bill, using the serial number.

"Maybe, unbeknownst to the detective who took the money, they had already taken photographs of all the money, to include the serial numbers, so they immediately did a comparison," explains Ivey.

The $100 bill found in Mann's pocket matched the serial number of the already photographed bill.

Ivey says when Mann was later interviewed by the Integrity Unit he gave an admission to the crime.

When asked what this means for other cases he may have investigated, Ivey says there are no indications, at this point, that he has done this before.

Mann has since resigned from JSO.
