Congresswoman in federal fraud and corruption trial says she needs money

She may need new lawyers by the end of the day.

She definitely wants more money from her supporters.

That's what Congresswoman Corrine Brown's latest blog is all about as she heads back to federal court this afternoon at 2 o'clock for another hearing in her ongoing fraud and corruption case.

In her latest blog post, the Democrat wrote that this year's campaign is more challenging and expensive because her district now runs west from Jacksonville to Tallahassee instead of south to Orlando.

"Running a re-election campaign is a lot like driving a car on the interstate," Brown wrote in the blog. "Everything is fine until the gas starts running low."

She also took a shot at Al Lawson - one of the Democrats running against her in the primary - for receiving thousands of dollars from groups who have financially supported Republicans like Ander Crenshaw, Ron DeSantis, Rick Scott and Marco Rubio in the past.

Brown made no mention in that post of her ongoing legal issues, which include her current lawyers asking the judge to remove them from her case due to an atmosphere of hostility and distrust.

A motion from NeJame Law filed last week cites irreconcilable differences with Brown over several aspects of her defense, including her availability. It came just two days after the firm agreed to represent the Democrat.

She and Ronnie Simmons - her Chief of Staff - are facing over 350 years in prison if they're convicted of personally benefiting from money donated to what the federal government calls a bogus educational non-profit organization.

The trial is due to begin in October.
