Police in North Carolina arrested a Jacksonville businessman who was presumed dead for the past two years.

Jose Lantigua supposedly died in Venezuela in 2013.  The 62-year-old allegedly owed more than $8 million.

His disappearance sparked several lawsuits because he allegedly used life insurance policies as collateral to obtain loans.

Lantigua is being held in Buncombe County, North Carolina and is facing federal charges. His wife, Daphne Simpson, was arrested Saturday in St. Johns County.

Lantigua was known for owning a Circle K Furniture store in Jacksonville.

Lantigua’s attorney, Josh Woolsey, said the law firm is making moves to stop representing Lantigua as soon as possible.
