Southside shooting confirmed home invasion robbery attempt

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office now confirms a shooting on the Southside Wednesday was a home invasion robbery attempt.

It happened at a home on Spring Glen Road. Two people were in the home when a third knocked on the door.  That third person was shot- and initially police weren’t able to provide many details aside from that- including the circumstances around the shooting.

We’ve now obtained the incident report which officially classifies this as a home invasion robbery with a firearm.

The report says an unknown man approached the home, asked if someone unknown to the homeowner was inside, and when the homeowner tried to close the door, the suspect pushed his way in. He then reportedly pulled a gun and pointed it at the victim’s head, saying “this is a robbery, give it up.”

The victim’s wife reportedly heard the commotion from her bedroom and came out holding a handgun. The victim dropped to the floor and his wife started shooting, according to the report. The suspect shot back, at which point the wife retrieved another gun from her bedroom and kept shooting.

We’re told the suspect was shot multiple times. His injuries are critical, but police say he will recover.

Police continue to investigate. There have been no arrests at this time.
