ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — Charges against a 91-year-old St. Augustine man accused of shooting his wife to death earlier this month have been reduced to second degree murder.
William Lippold told deputies after his wife was killed on Aug. 1 that she was blind and had Alzheimer’s. Deputies said Lippold confessed to killing her because he promised he’d never put her in a nursing home, an arrest report states.
He was previously charged with first degree murder.
Lippold’s son told detectives that his father told him that he planned on killing himself by placing a plastic bag over his head, according to the report. Lippold was the sole caretaker for his wife, his son told detectives.
Lippold also told investigators that he was planning to kill his wife for about a month, according to the arrest report.
