CLAY COUNTY, Fla. — 6:45 PM: Police have arrested a 38-year-old man they said pointed a firearm at a woman while choking her during a domestic incident at a home on Peoria Drive.
Following a 911 call, James Julian left the home in a car and was pursued by Clay County Sheriff’s deputies, who located the car nearby. Police established a perimeter around the area and continued to search for him, a police post on Facebook said.
Police reached Julian by phone and managed to convince him to return to the home, where he was taken into custody.
He is being charged with domestic battery by strangulation and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
4 PM: The Clay County Sheriff’s Office has issued an “all-clear,” after reporting they have a suspect in custody after a search in the Lakeside area.
Police are still asking residents to avoid the area. It is a “very active scene. Follow directions of deputies on scene,” a spokeswoman said
2:40 PM: Clay County Sheriff’s Office said they have a suspect in custody.
1:36 PM: The sheriff’s office told Action News Jax it’s searching for an individual and its investigation in ongoing.
1:30 PM: Sheriff Michelle Cook posted the following on her social media: “Please avoid this area. Very active scene. Follow directions of deputies on scene.”
Clay County Sheriff’s Office issued a SafeWatch Alert just before 1 p.m. Saturday about “police activity” in Lakeside. The alert said residents in the Loango Road and Fortuna Drive areas will notice increased law enforcement presence “as deputies conduct official law enforcement activity,” the alert states.
Resident in the area were asked to stay in their homes and others were asked to avoid the area, the report states.
