9-1-1 calls from Jax Beach brawls released

We're hearing for the first time the 9-1-1 calls made on Monday when fights broke out while thousands were at Jacksonville Beach celebrating Memorial Day weekend.

"Yes, there's a huge fight in front of the amphitheather in Jax Beach Pavilion Park, huge fight," one caller tells a dispatcher in audio obtained by our partner Action News.

Although police originally told our partner Action News there were no 9-1-1 calls made about the fights, we're learning this morning that was because an officer who was already on scene called for backup when the fights started.

"This is JSO with a transfer. Ma'am, go ahead with the address," says the dispatcher in another call.

"Actually you guys are here, so it's all good," the caller replies as sirens can be heard in the background.

Another caller describes what happened to the only victim identified so far, 20-year-old Anthony Jones. He's the person seen in the video in bright orange athletic shorts and a grey shirt.

""There was a group of men who just jumped on him and started banging his head into the ground," said the caller. "He's hurt. He's walking away. His friend picked him up and pulled the guys off of him. He's over here by the Quality Suites."

"Where are the other people at?" the dispatcher asks.

"I don't know. They ran off," said the caller.

Meanwhile organizers like Sam Veal, who is planning for the Community First Seawalk Music Festival starting June 15, are determined not to let Monday's fights deter people from coming to future events.

"I just think this was an unfortunate situation that happened to occur here. It could occur anywhere"

Police say they are stepping up patrols and you'll notice it as soon as this weekend.
