Car with kids inside shot up at NW Jax gas station

A shooting in broad daylight at a gas station in northwest Jacksonville left one woman hurt but could have had a more tragic outcome.  Two children were in the back seat of the car.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office says Monday's shooting happened around Noon at Blue Star Gas Station at Myrtle and W. 16th Street.

Three to four shots were fired at the car.  Surveillance photos show one of the bullets hit the car and barely missed the man standing in front it.

We're told the man ran to the side of the car for protection and to check on the two small children he had in the back seat.  The kids were not hurt.  But a female passenger was hospitalized with a hand wound.

Police say the victims did nothing to provoke to attack.

"The vehicle just pulled up and started shooting at them. They heard three shots," said Lt. Ashish Sircar with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Police describe the vehicle as a green Hyundai with damage to the left front with dark tinted windows.

Investigators said there were two or more people in that car and at least one of them is armed.
