A Middleburg teen has been charged with the death of his 11-week-old son.
19-year-old Jesse Helms has been charged with aggravated manslaughter of a child, which is a felony. Helms willingly went to a Clay County Sheriff’s Office substation to talk to police about the incident, however most of what he says has been redacted.
The report does detail the condition of the baby when it arrived at the hospital last week. Investigators say the 11-week-old did not have any brain activity. The medical report says the baby had “multiple subdural hematomas to his brain, blunt force trauma to his abdomen and severe retinal hemorrhaging in his right eye.” Investigators say the injuries were consistent with the baby being “severely shaken and likely hit into something.”
The injuries stem from one incident, according to the report, and would have been immediately debilitating to the baby.
Helms is being held on no bond.
