A Florida Highway Patrol trooper is in stable condition after a suspect shot him in the face during a foot pursuit in Palatka early on Saturday morning.
FHP reports 11-year veteran trooper Lawrence Litzell was trying to make a stop on a vehicle when two of the suspects in it took off on foot and shot Litzell in the face.
Litzell was able to return fire and hit one of the suspects. The second one is still at large
24-year-old Somourian Wingo was pronounced dead at the scene.
Trooper Litzell was airlifted to the hospital. FDLE is handling the investigation.
