Jacksonville Police try music to calm tense situation

Jacksonville resident Kimberly Pryor said she was visiting a friend in the Springfiend area Oct. 22 when a neighbor approached the house screaming and yelling.

Pryor told Action News Jax she was headed to her truck to go home when the neighbor approached her friend's yard, yelling about pictures on Facebook.

Pryor said the neighbor threatened her and her friend so she called police and began recording with her phone in case things escalated further.

In the video posted on Pryor's Facebook page a Jacksonville Sheriff's Office patrol car pulled up to her friends house appearing to blare "Why can't we be friends", a 1975 hit by the band War.

"I didn't even realize at the time that the music was coming from JSO until later when I watched the video," Pryor said.

Pryor also said she was extremely thankful for how the JSO officers handled the situation, removing the upset neighbor back to his home to talk with him while another officer spoke with Pryor and her friend and ultimately diffusing the situation.

After watching the video and realizing one of the officers was playing the music, she said she appreciated the way in which they arrived in a calming manner.

Sounds like JSO tried a new tactic recently during a situation after a neighbor became irate - why can't we be friends?! http://bit.ly/2zgyoku
