Jetty the Mayport Buck dies after run-in with fence

Jetty the Mayport Buck has died.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission confirms they were called at 10:46AM about a buck caught in a fence on Naval Station Mayport.  FWC was told by Mayport military police that the animal was caught in a fence and appeared to be suffering. They were able to free the buck, but by the time FWC got on scene, it was dead.

FWC says Jetty was buried on the base. The cause of death is unclear, but could be stress related, according to FWC.

Naval Station Mayport confirms there was a deer caught in a fence off a perimeter road on the base.

Both FWC and Mayport say the buck is Jetty.

A Facebook page dedicated to Jetty is disputing this, claiming the deer that died is smaller and didn't have as many points as Jetty.
