Justin Blackmon arrives at Everbank

First round draft pick Justin Blackmon arrives in Jacksonville and gets right to work.

The Jacksonville Jaguars’ new receiver Justin Blackmon arrived at Everbank field Friday afternoon and, after a press conference, got right to work.

“I don’t know if you realize it,” Coach Mike Mularkey said. “But he’s got his first meeting with the coaches today at 1:30 with the playbook.”

The first-round draft pick from Oklahoma State says it’s a “dream come true” to play in Jacksonville.

“It’s not too big, not too small,” Blackmon said of the city.  “It’s just how I like to be.  A laid back, chilled, relaxed area.”

Blackmon said coming to a team that wanted to trade for him makes him want to “work that much harder.”

General manager Gene Smith said the Jaguars targeted Blackmon for the draft.

Mularkey said Blackmon is an “unselfish” and “complete” football player who doesn’t do one thing better than the other.

Owner Shad Kahn said he has recently become familiar with the “big picture” of where the Jaguars stand and what their goals are.  He said he has a much bigger appreciation for the work that goes into drafting a player after witnessing the process.

“Maybe I can make a bold prediction: we’re definitely gonna be better,” Kahn said.
