Oil expert: Jax gas prices down 16 cents from last Labor Day

WOKV’s oil expert says he has not seen Jacksonville’s gas prices this low heading into the Labor Day weekend since 2010.

On Wednesday, the average price for a gallon of regular gas in the River City averaged $3.34.  Gregg Laskoski with GasBuddy.com says a year ago the average was $3.50.

“The production that we’re seeing nationwide has been very strong, and we’ve seen very good numbers from refineries,” Laskoski says.

Prices have come up a few cents this week ahead of the Labor Day holiday, but Laskoski says the slight rise in demand is not significant.

Laskoski says after Labor Day weekend, refineries will begin the switch to winter blend gasoline.

“And that’s something that brings lower prices really for the remainder of the year,” he says.
