LAKE CITY, Fla. - A statewide manhunt ends VERY close to Northeast Florida when a man accused of murdering his wife and son takes his own life in a Lake City motel.
Columbia County Sheriff's Deputies say they were put on alert after Pedro Maldonado killed his wife and son with a crossbow in their home near Miami. They say he then drove to Tallahassee and unsuccessfully tried to kill his other son, who's a student at Florida State. The chase then led police to Lake City.
"Patrolled the different areas, motels and such as that, and one of our employees located the vehicle at the motel on 90 West," Sheriff Hunter tells our partner Action News.
Columbia County Sheriff Mark Hunter says Maldonado's car was found outside a Lake City motel, and after SWAT teams failed to make contact with him, they moved in and found he had slit his own throat inside a bathroom.
