The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office has arrested a 16-year-old for sexual battery.
Police say Marlon Melendez grabbed the victim in her bedroom at a home on North Edgewood Avenue and Commonwealth Avenue. He's accused of putting her in a choke hold from behind. Investigators say he punched her in the head and then committed a sexual battery. Officers say he got away with the victim's cell phone and a white tank top.
Police say the female victim jumped out of a bedroom window and ran to a neighbor's house to call police. Officer J.M. Faulker was enroute to the call and saw a person matching the suspect's description running down the street. JSO says they detained the suspect and the victim positively identified him to investigators.
He's charged with sexual battery and burglary.
