72-year-old Jacksonville homeowner shot by suspect in apparent burglary

A 72-year-old woman is recovering from a gunshot wound to the leg following a frightening crime in her westside home.
Monday at 3:54am police say the woman woke up to hear someone in her house on Labelle Street. When she got out of her bed to check, she observed a tall, slender black man in the hallway.
The woman asked him what he was doing in the house, at which time she called for her husband.   According to the police report the suspect said "shut the f*** up" and then shot her in the left thigh.

The victim was able to retrieve her gun from a dresser drawer, then gave it to her 74-year-old husband.  He took a shot at the suspect, and it appears the suspect was not hit.

It appears the suspect broke in through a dining room window. It was found open and the screen was on the ground.

There were items in the den that had been knocked over but nothing appeared to have been taken.   The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is asking anyone who may have seen or heard suspicious activity in the 1300 block of Labelle Street to call 904-630-0500.
