First Coast Crime Stoppers hopeful for tips leading to arrest of Southside sexual battery suspect

Jacksonville — JSO continues to search for an unknown man accused of sexually attacking a woman at a Southside apartment early Sunday Morning. Police say the man kicked in the victim's front door and forced the woman and her father into a bedroom at gunpoint. Police say the incident happened at a complex near Gate Parkway and Burnt Mill Road.

First Coast Crime Stoppers says they are hopeful tips leading to the unknown mans capture will start to come in.

“We should be getting something in the near future on that I would think.” Says Wyllie Hodges with First Coast Crime Stoppers.

As of Wednesday Morning, First Coast Crime Stopper hasn’t received any tips on the unknown man.

Hodges says there are a few things you can do to prevent yourself from being the victim of this type of crime. Hodges says the simplest thing you can do is make sure your home or apartment is locked.

“Believe it or not some people still leave it unlocked, and some of them just forget.” Hodges says.

Hodges says having a surveillance system, or some way of looking out your front door, are both good ways to stay safe.

Hodges also says staying aware and looking out for your neighbors and talking with them is a way of keeping your community safe.

“Make sure that you’re talking with them and make sure they know who belongs there, what kind of cars belong there.” Hodges says.
