Fuller Warren hole patched but bridge still a problem

A three by two foot hole opened up in the center lane of Interstate 95 southbound, just south of the Fuller Warren Bridge, causing lengthy delays for hours for drivers trying to leave downtown Jacksonville.

The left and center lane on the Fuller Warren Bridge were closed while crews raced to repair the hole, and the FDOT did not think they will get the lanes back open before the start of evening rush hour, but around 4:30 PM the FDOT told us the hole was patched and lanes were reopening once again.

FDOT Spokesman Mike Goldman says the hole came about because of the recent bad weather and heavy rain.  But it’s not the only time the bridge has given them problems.

“This is a bridge that has regularly given us maintenance nightmares,” he says.

The bridge is slated to be replaced starting early next year.
