St. Johns County Administrator fired

Jacksonville, FL — Longtime St. Johns County Administrator Michael Wanchick has been fired in a unanimous vote by the St. Johns County Board of Commissioners.

Commissioners cited a lack of confidence as well as the recent dust-up over parking at Mickler's Landing Beach for a private construction project.

WOKV reported last week the Board of County Commissioners announced that access to Mickler's Landing Beachfront Park would now be open Monday through Friday from 11AM until sunset while dune restoration continues.

In a lengthy Facebook post, Commissioner Jeremiah Blocker explained why he put forward the motion to relieve Wanchick of his duties, effective immediately.

“I have lost confidence in Mr. Wanchick’s leadership and in his ability to lead our employees. The County Administrator’s job is to ensure that the decisions made by this Board are implemented and followed. That has not happened, and the responsibility lies with Mr. Wanchick”, said Blocker.

Michael Wanchick had served as County Administrator since 2007.  His role will be filled by the county's Clerk of Courts for now.
