Man found dead at end of Northside driveway

Police are investigating an early Sunday shooting that left a man dead on the Northside.

Investigators say a man was found lying at the end of a driveway on Talladega Road just after 7 a.m. On Sunday night, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office identified the man as 20-year-old Jeremiah White.

When police arrived, they say White was already dead. They say he had at least one gunshot wound.

Neighbors tell Action News Jax that they heard several shots fired at least five hours earlier.

“About four to five gunshots, and a minute after that I heard about two, three more gunshots. It was louder than the first gunshots,” says Curtis Asberry.

Asberry said he looked out the window and didn’t see police, so he went back to sleep. Other neighbors say they were just too scared to look.

“I just laid in the bed and wouldn’t move. Anytime we hear shots, I just don’t move,” said Jacquelyn Cook, a neighbor.

Asberry said the sound of gunfire is common in his neighborhood.

“A lot of people hear shots and they don’t come out because they hear it all of the time,” said Asberry.

“In the middle of the night, some people looked outside, didn’t see anything and they continued about their business,” said Sergeant Michael Paul, JSO.

Sergeant Paul said many people only heard gunshots and several people aren’t answering their doors, so they’re hoping more people will come forward.
