One of the Mayor's loaned executives clarifying his future

One of the loaned executives on the Mayor's staff is clearing the air about his future.

In a letter to Mayor Brown, Don Shea writes that he is returning to his full-time position as executive director of the civic council.

He has spent the last year as an uncompensated advisor.

Shea says he is not being considered as a candidate for the proposed position of CEO of the pending Downtown Investment Authority.

The Honorable Alvin Brown
Office of the Mayor
City Hall - St. James Building

Jacksonville, Florida 32202

Dear Mayor Brown:

This is a follow-up to our conversation last Wednesday regarding my service to you as a loaned executive for economic development. It is fitting to clarify that relationship now, as we have just reached the first anniversary of your historic election as Mayor of our City. My activities on behalf of your administration, including the honor of serving as Transition Staff Director, have spanned that entire year.

I have been very honored and privileged to serve your administration as an uncompensated advisor. Because of the extensive amount of development and per-development activity currently underway throughout downtown Jacksonville, it is important that I continue that service. However, as we discussed, the time has come for me to return to my full-time position as Executive Director of the Jacksonville Civic Council. I would also like to make clear that I am not to be considered as a candidate for the proposed position of CEO of the pending Downtown Investment Authority should the DIA be approved by the City Council.

Let me reiterate that I am happy to assist you and the proposed DIA Board in the search for a CEO should the legislation pass, and I have the full support of the Civic Council to do that. My extensive personal network among downtown professionals throughout the country can be very valuable to Jacksonville in that regard. Further, I am eager to provide ongoing support and recommendations to your administration, to the City Council, and to the proposed DIA once it is formed and operational.

Thank you once again, both personally and on behalf of the Jacksonville Civic Council, for the unique opportunity to have served your administration.

Sincerely yours,

Donald A. Shea
Executive Director
