Schumerth audition video producer speaks

You heard and saw the video for the first time Thursday of 28-year-old Shane Schumerth.

And  now, the producer of that video is speaking out and remains as in shock as everyone else as to what pushed Schumerth to the brink that caused him to kill both himself, and Episcopal High School’s Head Master Dale Regan.

Dan McCarthy was the producer of the video that Schumerth auditioned for just months before he walked into Regan’s administrative office with an AK-47, shot Regan, then turned the gun on himself.

McCarthy tells our news partner Channel 4 after seeing the video and remembering it, he almost wanted there to be a sign so it would make the concept of what happened at Episcopal High School Tuesday easier to grasp.

“It just kind of makes you feel powerless about the world. It can do anything, and there’s nothing you can do about it,” says McCarthy.

McCarthy continued on to say that when he spoke to Schumerth, he seemed like an average guy.

“It’s something to point at, see, ya know, there’s something wrong with that guy. But there’s not,” says McCarthy.
