Sizzling September heat wave to gradually relax

Jacksonville, FL — It’s going to feel at least five degrees cooler than the last few days as onshore winds build in.  Afternoon high temperatures are forecast in the low 90’s inland, and staying in the 80’s at the beaches.  Today will likely be the 87th day at or above 90 degrees this calendar year.

Action News Jax Chief Meteorologist Mike Buresh says temperatures will gradually decrease by the end of the week, however we’ll see an increase in rain and thunderstorm possibilities, which will bring higher humidity.

A tropical system will enhance our rain potential by the end of week but Mike says it is not likely to develop into anything more than tropical downpours.

Mike says conditions do appear far more favorable for the system to develop once in to the Gulf of Mexico, but it would not be a local problem as it would be moving away from the Jacksonville area.

The tropics are peaking with activity, which coincides with the meteorological peak of the Atlantic Hurricane Season.
